Do you ever wonder why your tooth enamel changes color? If so, you have come to the right blog. Today, our dentist, Dr. Amandeep Gill, is happy to discuss the reasons why the smile changes. Unfortunately, some reasons you cannot control while others you can. The reasons for tooth discoloration include:

-Tooth-staining foods and drinks (Like red wine, coffee, dark berries, and tomato sauce. If it can stain fabric, it can stain your tooth enamel.)

-Tobacco use (Tar and nicotine stain the tooth enamel. Tar is naturally dark and nicotine is colorless until it meets oxygen. Then, it changes into a yellow, enamel-staining substance.)

-Age (Sometimes as time goes by, the white outer shell of the teeth wears away. Then, it exposes the underlying layer that is called dentin. Dentin is naturally yellow.)

-Trauma (Sometimes your tooth protects itself with dentin when it is injured. Like mentioned before, dentin is naturally yellow.)

-Medications (Some medications have a side effect of tooth darkening.)
